The age of Bukhara exceeds 2500 years. Various legends are associated with the appearance of Bukhara - traditions. One of the legends says that the son of Tsar Siyavush arrived in Bukhara, married the daughter of King Afrasiab and built the Ark fortress there - became the ruler of the Kingdom of the Türks.
The center of Bukhara is the fortress Ark, where the rulers lived - their close ones. Beyond its walls formed the actual city - "Shahristan." He was surrounded by trade and craft suburbs - "Rabad". The Great Silk Road ran through Bukhara. There were more than 60 caravanserais where merchants - traders from India, China, Iran - other countries were located.
In ancient times, Bukhara and its district was surrounded by a large defensive wall.
In the years - the period of the reign of Timur (1370-1405), the capital of the empire was Samarkand. However, in these years, the Kalyan mosque and the mausoleum of Chashmai Ayub were built in Bukhara.
Under the rule of Ulugbek, Bukhara was enriched with the building of a new madrassah (1417). Everything here is typical for the architecture of that time: clarity of the general concept, excellent proportions, restraint of decor. The decoration of the madrasah uses a mosaic of glazed bricks.
With the reign of Sheybanid Ubaidullah Khan (1487 - 1540), the city of Bukhara again became the capital of the state, called the Bukhara Khanate. In the era of the Sheibanids, dozens of new madrassas, mosques, caravanserais, and trading domes were built in Bukhara. The city reached its peak during the reign of Sheybanid Abdullah Khan II (1557-1598).
The city of Bukhara did not go beyond the boundaries of its fortress wall, built in the 16th century, while it contained more than 200 madrassas - many bazaars where you could buy almost everything.
